Title requirements

Introduction

Our service has specific requirements that all releases and their associated data must comply with, including the names of releases and the tracks within them.

Any non-compliance with these requirements may result in your release being returned for revision by our moderators. As a result, the release may not be published on your originally planned date. Please contact us if you have any doubts about the correctness of the release or track title.

To better understand this article, it's important to clarify what is meant by the “release title”.

For example, a full release name in a store may look like this:

Nevelskiy — Ocean (Alex Remix) [feat. Phillipo Blake] — Single

In this case:

  • Nevelskiy is the main artist. This is entered in the “Main Artist(s)” field group.
  • Ocean is the title of the release. This goes into the “Release Title” field.
  • (Alex Remix) is the version title of the release. This is entered in the “Version (optional)” field, without parentheses.
  • [feat. Phillipo Blake] - is the name of a featured artist. This is entered in the “Contributors” field group by adding a contributor with the featuring role
  • Single is the type of the release. This is specified in the “Release Type” field.

Therefore, the “Release Title” field should contain only the title of the release — without the artist’s name, version or remix title, featured artists, or release type. The full title, as illustrated above, is automatically generated when the release is submitted to the store with the fields filled out in this way:

Requirements

Capitalization

Below are the capitalization requirements of various stores according to their official guidelines. However, in practice, stores accept releases in any register. You may submit a release title in all caps — we will accept it and send it to the stores, but we cannot guarantee that they will accept it 100% of the time.

Release and track titles must not be written entirely in lowercase or entirely in uppercase. Depending on the language used, different capitalization rules apply.

LanguageCapitalization RuleExample
English, Spanish, PortugueseEvery word is capitalized, except for articles, conjunctions, and prepositionsThis Is My Way to the Top
Russian, Swedish, French, ItalianOnly the first word in the title is capitalizedЭто мой путь наверх
GermanThe first word in the title is capitalized, as well as all nouns (according to German grammar rules)Das ist mein Weg nach oben

Prohibited and Discouraged Words

When choosing titles for releases and tracks, you should take into account certain categories of words that should either be used cautiously or avoided altogether.

CategoryExamplesNote
Brands and storesApple Music, Spotify, AdidasShould be avoided. May cause issues during the publishing process or even after publication.
Promo wordsExclusive, New, Promo, Hit, Best, Top, FreeUsing these words in a format like "My Best Day" is acceptable; in a format like "Top Best Phonk Tracks", it is not allowed.
Technical specifications24-bit, 192 kHz, 128 kHz, 96 kHzMay be used in the version title, but not in the release title
Version or remixAlbum Version, Original Mix, Alex RemixMay be used in the version title, but not in the release title
Technology namesAtmos, Dolby Atmos, Lossless, high-resolution audio, spatial audioUsage is prohibited in both the version title and the release title.

Single-Track Albums

If an album consists of a single track, the album title must match the track title, including all version information (e.g., remix) in parentheses. For example:

Release Title: Ocean
Version Title: Original Mix

Track Title: Ocean
Mix Title: Original Mix

Track Titles

Track titles within an album must not be identical. The only exception is when the album contains two different mixes of the same track — in that case, the Track Title fields may be the same, but the Mix Title fields must differ.

Using generic titles like “Track 1,” “Track 2,” etc., is not recommended. Additionally, track numbers should not be included in the title — numbering is automatically generated by stores.

Album Series

If your release is part of a series, the information should be formatted as follows:

Release Title, Volume Number или Series Name: Release Title

Examples:

  • Top of the Clubs, Vol. 50
  • Top of the Clubs, Vol. 51
  • 6x6: The Sixties
  • 6x6: The Seventies

You may include the volume number in the Release Title field or in the Version field.
