What to Do If Your Music Is Stolen? (Takedown Requests)
If your track appears on digital platforms (DSPs) without permission, you can file a takedown request (DMCA complaint) to have it removed.
How to File a Complaint
- Go to the platform’s copyright form or email the contact listed below.
- Provide:
- Your details: full name, company/brand, address, email, link to your original track (or other proof of ownership).
- Infringement details: content type (sound recording, artwork, trademark), link to the infringing content, short explanation.
- Mandatory legal statements (must be included, in English):

How to Prepare Proof of Ownership
- Keep original project files (DAW sessions, stems, drafts, demos).
- Record publication dates on your official platforms (SoundCloud, Bandcamp, socials).
- Keep contracts with labels/distributors and screenshots of uploads.
- Where possible, register copyrights (e.g., BMI, ASCAP, RAO).
Important: the more evidence you provide, the faster DSPs will remove infringing content.
What Happens Next?
- The DSP reviews your request and removes the content if valid.
- They may request additional information.
- The uploader may submit a counterclaim.
- If the case escalates, consult a lawyer.
