Why is there a separate AI status for artists and contributors?
AI can be involved not only in creating music, lyrics, vocals, or artwork. An artist, performer, or other credited participant may also be a virtual or AI-generated identity.
For this reason, the origin of each artist and contributor included in the release metadata must now be specified separately.
The AI status of an artist and the AI status of a track are separate pieces of information. A human artist can release AI-generated music, while an AI artist may appear on a release that also contains substantial human creative work.
Which statuses are available?

When should I select Human?
Select Human when the artist or contributor is a real person and their identity has not been created using generative AI.
For example:
- a real singer performed the vocals;
- a real musician performed an instrumental part;
- the songwriter or composer is a real person;
- a credited producer, remixer, or other contributor is a real person.
The use of AI in the track itself does not automatically make the artist an AI artist. Artist status and content status must be completed separately.
When should I select Mixed?
Select Mixed when an artist's identity, persona, or participation combines substantial human and AI elements.
For example, a real performer may form the basis of a project while AI is substantially used to extend or transform the project's artistic identity.
Standard processing of photographs, vocals, or other materials does not by itself turn a real artist into an AI persona. Mixed should be used when AI forms a meaningful part of the participant's identity or representation.
When should I select AI?
Select AI when the credited artist or contributor is not a real person but an identity created using artificial intelligence.
Examples include:
- a virtual artist generated entirely using AI;
- an artist name, persona, and creative identity belonging to an AI-generated character;
- a synthetic character credited as a participant instead of a real person.
What does the “?” next to a name mean?
The ? symbol means that no AI status has been provided for that artist or contributor.
This is the technical No data value. It does not mean “No AI.”
If No data is left unchanged, the participant will automatically be treated as AI when the release is delivered to music platforms.
If the artist or contributor is a real person, make sure to select Human. Do not leave the field unfilled.
What should I check before submitting a release?
- Review every artist credited on the release and individual tracks.
- Review all contributors and performers.
- Select Human for real people.
- Select Mixed for projects combining human and AI identity or participation.
- Select AI for AI-generated personas.
- Make sure no artist or contributor is still marked with “?” / No data.
Is the artist status connected to AI in track?
No. These fields describe different aspects of a release.
