What is a Release Type?
The release type determines the format of the music product being issued.
Depending on the number of tracks and the nature of the music, a release can be classified as:
Single
Typically contains one song, sometimes with one or two additional tracks, which can be remixes or versions of the main track.
EP (Extended Play)
Has more tracks than a single but fewer than a full-length album, usually ranging from two to five songs. This format allows for presenting more material than a single without the need to release an entire album.
Album
A full-length release, consisting of six tracks or more.
Compilation
A collection of tracks that may be gathered from different albums by one artist or include works by various artists. Compilations often gather the best tracks or thematically related songs.
Ringtone
A short clip of music or sound intended for use on mobile phones.
